  7.   The  definitive  WB-Enhancer  no  Amiga  can do without.  MagicWB is a full
  8.   replacement  for  the  graphic  user interface of the Workbench and has be-
  9.   come  the standard on the Amiga.  MagicWB 2.0 is completely restructured on
  10.   a  new  color-allocation scheme which more than doubles the speed of the WB
  11.   and  reduces  chip-consumption  to  only a third compared with all previous
  12.   versions  and  also  features  a  highly  improved  color palette.  MWB 2.0
  13.   introduces  a  never-before-seen  standard  for  over  four  dozen  of  new
  14.   image-drawers  to  achieve a more diversified look on your WB.  More icons,
  15.   dock-brushes, a dozen of new patterns, fonts and a AA-support complete this
  16.   special product.

  18.   This  is  version 2.1p, the freely distributable public version ('p' stands
  19.   for 'public').  You are allowed to evaluate this version for a period of 14
  20.   days. After that you have to register if you continue using it. This share-
  21.   ware  version  has  been  reduced  to  motivate  you  to  register MagicWB.
  22.   Additionally some icons remind you to register if you click on them and you
  23.   will  also  experience  a  MagicWB  requester  from  time  to  time.  These
  24.   "annoying" things are only included to motivate you to register and will be
  25.   removed  when  you  install  the full, registered version of MagicWB.

  27.   This  version  is  fully  installable  and  usable, hence you can very much
  28.   evaluate  if  you like MagicWB or not and if it's worth to register it.  By
  29.   installing   this  version  you  are  also  updating  to  the  new  MagicWB
  30.   color-allocation  scheme which makes you compatible with other applications
  31.   using  MWB.  After this installation no graphics, icons etc.  should appear
  32.   in  the  wrong  colors  again.  And the icon-build-up and general workbench
  33.   performance will be much faster than before.

  35.   Please  note  that  the  version numbers of the registered version and this
  36.   public  release  may  be  different  since  they  use a different numbering
  37.   scheme.

  39.   TO ALL REGISTERED USERS:  This public version does not feature anything for
  40.   you, except the XHelvetica/11 font!  I have fixed a nasty bug in that font,
  41.   so just replace your old  XHelvetica font in the directory  FONTS: with the
  42.   one that is included in this release. Thank you!

  55.   The full version "MagicWB 2.0" (which you receive if you register) includes
  56.   a variety of new features some of which are listed below:

  59. NEW FEATURES
  60. ------------

  62. o MagicWB is an SASG product.
  63.  
  64. o The  conception  of  MagicWB  has  completely  changed.  Color  allocation,
  65.   management  and  display  of  the  patterns and the color palette have been
  66.   significantly altered and improved.  It is highly recommended to update any
  67.   older MagicWB version for the new color allocation system paves the way for
  68.   all  forthcoming  MagicWB  versions, also for the conceived 16-color-WB (of
  69.   which  the realization is dependent on the amount of registrations for this
  70.   current  version  2.0).   Besides,  many other program packages are already
  71.   supporting the new color system.

  73. o A  "demon"  (a  special  utility)  is  now  working  in  the background and
  74.   watches over the correct color palette display under any resolution, screen
  75.   depth   and   on  any  graphics  board.   He  takes  care  of  the  palette
  76.   re-allocation when a new screen is opened and checks which patterns have to
  77.   be  remapped or not.  (OS3.x) Furthermore the user can now again define his
  78.   own  colors  for  the  cursor  without getting in conflict with the MagicWB
  79.   palette.

  81. o Due to the new color system MagicWB has become  2-3  times  faster than any
  82.   previous version,  nearly as fast as the original Commodore 4-color-WB!  At
  83.   the  same time it needs 67% less chip memory and over 50% less diskspace on
  84.   the  system  partition.   The  increase  of  speed  is  enormous.  Also the
  85.   patterns are displayed much faster without getting dithered anymore.

  87. o The  MagicWB  palette  has  been  considerably improved, especially AA- and
  88.   graphics  board  users  will benefit from this new palette.  Because of the
  89.   fine  increments  of the 8-bit palette (8 bits per gun) the MagicWB palette
  90.   could  be  optimized to the maximum of perfection.  The palette is a little
  91.   bit  darker now to compensate for the old imperfection to manually decrease
  92.   the  black-level  (brightness)  of  the  monitor (since the old palette has
  93.   always  been  too  bright  and  resulted  in  a  loss  of the 3-D-effect of
  94.   MagicWB's  icons  and patterns).  Furthermore the gradient's 3-D-effect was
  95.   improved  by  increasing the difference of the brightness level between the
  96.   colors  halfshine  and  halfshadow.  This results in a strong 3-D-effect of
  97.   the  brown  and  gray gradients.  Finally,  the saturation of all colors is
  98.   increased which leads to a far more vivid workbench with richer colors.

  100. o As  a  foretaste  of  the  planned  AA-version,  MagicWB  already  offers a
  101.   AA-support:  Some  new patterns exploit the possibilities of the AA-Chipset
  102.   by using the copper in a way which results in a workbench background with a
  103.   24-bit   color-gradient.   This  smashing  workstation-look  just  needs  a
  104.   16-color  workbench  in  conjunction  with  MagicWB  and  its  new  utility
  105.   'MagicCopper'.

  107. o The  patterns  (in  a new format now)  will  also  work under OS2.x without
  108.   having to be converted.
  109.  
  110. o A  dozen  of  new  patterns  in  the  MagicWB-style  were added:  Wonderful
  111.   backgrounds  like,  for  example, various stone structures, marble effects,
  112.   sand,  paper,  rain,  leather and gradient logos like IntelOutside, MagicWB
  113.   etc.

  115. o All  third-party  icons  which  were  displayed  in  a distorted color look
  116.   before are now correctly displayed by the new 'MagicWB-Demon'.

  118. o 'IconUpdate'  features  a  new  and powerful workbench-mode:  Old icons can
  119.   now  easily  be  converted to MagicWB-style icons by dragging the specified
  120.   icons  over  an  app-window  and  dropping them onto it  (drag&drop).  This
  121.   guarantees a quick processing of many icons in only a few minutes.

  123. o MagicWB  2.0  invents  a  new  standard  for  the  Amiga workbench:  Image-
  124.   Drawers!  This  provides  the  user with a far more diversified look of the
  125.   workbench.  Each  drawer  gets  its  own  specific  imagery which shows the
  126.   content of the drawer.  The complete System-partition will be equipped with
  127.   the  new  image-drawers  by default with the Installer.  Altogether over 50
  128.   different  image-drawers are being supplied with the new MagicWB 2.0.  This
  129.   should be complete to cover all different categories.  The placing of these
  130.   special drawers is carried out by the new drag&drop feature of 'IconUpdate'
  131.   which  makes  this  task  a  piece of cake.  All your partitions are set up
  132.   within minutes to achieve this refurbished and decent look of your Amiga.

  134. o 'UpdateDrawers'  recognizes  these  new  image-drawers and skips them while
  135.   performing its update on the normal drawer icons.  This feature saves you a
  136.   lot of time since you won't need to place the image-drawers again.

  138. o The  default  icons  have  been reworked  (new trashcan, drawer etc.).  New
  139.   default  icons  for  other  programs  have been added (def_KingCON, def_MUI
  140.   etc.)

  142. o The  device  icons  have  been  strongly  improved and now do have the same
  143.   standardized  height  to  ensure  a  perfect  horizontal  alignment  on the
  144.   workbench   screen.   New  device  icons  have  been  added  (CD,  Network,
  145.   Cartridge, etc.)

  147. o A  new  XEN-font was added:  XEN/11.  This font now features all characters
  148.   and is perfectly suitable for higher resolutions as a fixed system font.

  150. o New  dock-brushes  were  added,  some  old  dock-brushes  were improved and
  151.   redesigned from scratch.

  153. o The  style  of  all  MagicWB-Icons  has  been  improved:  The annoying blue
  154.   border has disappeared and was replaced by the color halfshadow.
  155.  
  156. o Many old  MagicWB-Icons have been improved and redesigned  (i.e. Prefs) and
  157.   various new icons have been added.
  158.  
  159. o The  Installer  was  considerably  improved.  Installations and updates are
  160.   both  performed  by  the  Installer now and the system analysis is far more
  161.   precise.  There shouldn't be any problems by now.

  163. o A  bonus  directory  can  be  found  in  the new MagicWB 2.0.  It carries a
  164.   couple of presets in the MagicWB-style for other programs.

  166. o MagicWB  features  a  very  special "goody".  It's a hidden gag!  Let's see
  167.   when you will brace yourself for the real kick...  :-)

  169. o Various bugfixings were applied on the different MagicWB utilities.

  175.   A  registered version of MagicWB 2.0 can be ordered for US$ 20,- or DM 30,-
  176.   (or any other currency supported by the SASG registration program) with the
  177.   help of the SASG registration program.

  179.   Over half a year of development was invested in MagicWB 2.0.  It is a major
  180.   update (upgrade), which means that it is a bigger update for which you have
  181.   to  pay.  All registered MagicWB users can obtain MagicWB 2.0 for only half
  182.   the  price  of the standardized SASG registration fee, i.e.  US$ 10,- or DM
  183.   15,- (or any other currency supported by the SASG registration program).
